KATMA | Azzam Mohamed (PYT)

“Katma” – is a slang term used in Sudan to describe parties. Its literal meaning is “suffocation/no room for breathing”.

Katma explores party and club culture, drawing inspiration from dance parties in Sudan, Sydney (Soul of Sydney, Freedom Session), and from back in the day (The Loft parties in New York, Warehouse Parties in Chicago, and raves in the UK). Katma explores elements from those dance parties, translating the essence of this cultural movement and elevating it into a dance theatre context.
